Gabions should be positioned as required with adjacent units connected. Once in position, gabion units should be stretched taut to provide neat, straight alignment. For high-standard rock facing, additional formwork may be used on the cage face for an even straighter finish.
The gabion lid should remain open during filling and be folded back out of the way. Rock should be machine-placed to about one-third height of a typical 1m high cage. Laborers should then hand-position rock against the front face to ensure a neat, tightly packed finish.
Finally, the gabion lid is pulled into position and laced closed to the perimeter of the cage and to each vertical partition/diaphragm within the gabion cage.
