Easy Install Hot-Dipped Galvanized River Mattress For Protection
Gabions are rectangular baskets made of heavily galvanized, double twisted, steel woven wire mesh. The single unit constructed baskets are assembled, laced together and then filled with stone to form a monolithic structure.
On sites where less depth and more surface area protection is required, a special type of gabion is used. Referred to as mattresses, these units are wider, with less depth than standard gabions. Mattresses are often used as flexible foundation slabs under gabions or as channel linings and revetment mats.

How to Build Gabion Mattress
  1. Erosion Control: Unfold mattress on flat ground and stamp to remove kinks. Lift sides and end panels upright and secure by tying selvedge wires.
  2. Assembly: Attach vertical edges of internal diaphragms to sides and lace with typing wire or approved fastener.
  3. Slopes & River Beds: Align mattress in required position and tie to adjacent units. Position diaphragms perpendicular to slope direction or water flow.
  4. Hexagonal Mesh: Fill compartments with stone, starting from bottom on slopes. Multiple mattresses can be filled simultaneously.
  5. Erosion Control: Keep stone filling ahead of lid placement. Securely tie lids to side-tops, end panels, and inner partitions.
  6. Form Cut Assembly: For curves, telescope or cut mattress to required shape. For sharp curves, may need diagonal cuts into triangular sections.
