Metal Gabion baskets and Mattresses are normally used for Civil works, channels, river & Streamworks, and earth retention like soil reinforcement, river training, erosion control, and fascia systems, all with or without extra organic coating, and all coated with zinc, or zinc-aluminum alloy, or non-ferrous advanced metallic materials.
Additionally, they can be utilized in other load-bearing and non-load-bearing construction projects, such as those involving architectural cladding, free-standing walls and fences, sound barriers, and noise reduction measures.
In the application in geotechnical structures, metal gabion baskets replace and redistribute all the transverse stress and deformation of gabion filling (stacked stone and/or aggregate ballast) and retained earthwork.
The most popular hole size of Metal Gabion baskets for erosion control is 8*10 type and 10*12 type hexagonal mesh.
Material and surface treatment for anti-corrosion:
The material of metal gabion baskets is Q195 Soft temper Carbon steel wire.
Surface treatment for anti-corrosion has 4 types:
a- Zinc-coated wire.
b- Coated with Galfan (Zn-5A1-MM or Zn-10A1-MM).
c- Zinc-coated and overcoated with PVC.
d- Galfan (Zn-5A1-MM or Zn-10A1-MM) coated overcoated with PVC.

Q: How many years can heavy Zine galvanized wire gabion baskets be used? What is the estimated working life?
A: According to EN10223, heavy Zine galvanized, class A gabion baskets can last up to 25 years in low aggressive conditions (dry conditions, like a desert, sub-arctic areas), and Zinc coated gabion class A can last more than 10 years in medium addressive condition. If want a longer life, Galfan(Zn90%Al10% alloy) is recommended. PVC and PA6 coating can extend the life significantly.
